MSC Container EDI Automation

The Challenge

Container status updates from MSC were being entered manually by operations staff — a time-consuming, error-prone process that introduced hours of lag between carrier events and internal system visibility.

The Solution

I architected a fully automated EDI messaging system integrated with MSC shipping line:

• Automatic EDI dispatch — system sends status request EDIs to MSC on schedule without any manual trigger
• Inbound EDI parsing — incoming MSC EDIs are parsed, validated, and mapped to internal container records automatically
• Real-time sync — container status updates appear in the ECY platform within minutes of carrier events
• Error handling & retry logic — failed EDIs are queued and retried with alerting

Impact

Eliminated an entire category of manual data entry. Container status update lag reduced from hours to minutes.
